After nearly 3 years of work, our debut middle-grade graphic novel The Do-Over is finally out in the world! …or at least in North America, so we didn’t really get to see it happen in person. Over here it was just a regular, cloudy day, but it still felt like a fun little holiday 🙂
I ended up taking the morning off work to sit with a cup of matcha and play in my sketchbook—now that I do comics as a job it’s harder to find the time to draw stuff for fun, so it felt fitting for the occasion. I had also forgotten how much I enjoy using Copics!!
Then Rodrigo came home from work and we spent the rest of the day eating fried chicken, watching the newest Ted Lasso (!!) and working on promoting the book online. I’m not the biggest fan of social media leaning so heavily on short videos, but I’ve been getting better at recording them, so that’s been nice.
I also commissioned our friend Ángeles (@galletera) to make us some cookies to celebrate! I want to keep some of them for when we get our copies of the book, but it’s hard to have a box of cookies in the house and resist eating them…
So I guess we’re published authors now! I’m really proud of the work we’ve done for this, and I really hope people have a fun time reading it. Right now we’re working in the sequel book to The Do-Over, and I gotta say it’s looking really fun so far. You’ll see it in…a couple years!!

UPDATE: We got our book copies!! I’m so excited to finally hold this in my hands! I’ll keep one nearby as motivation while I work through the second book, it’s good to know all the hard work eventually pays off.
