My 2022 Planner: Hobonichi Weeks

Hello again! With *~HOBONICHI SEASON~* approaching, I wanted to write a little review of my planner so far!! Plus, last year I also wrote a review and I think it’s a fun thing to look back at in the future.

FIRST, THE CONTEXT:
I’m using this planner for both my comic work and personal tasks (appointments, house tasks, etc.). I keep a separate bullet journal for everything related to my Planetarium job, but if there are any time-sensitive appointments (meetings, etc.) I’ll write them here as well.

I never thought I’d become a person with two planners, but here we are!!

OK LET’S GET TO THE PLANNER:
The planner I got for this year is a Hobonichi Weeks–my first time using a Hobonichi planner!

(shown next to an A5 notebook and a fineliner, for scale)

Here’s what made me finally get one:

  • Hobonichi has a lot of DIEHARD FANS and I wanted to know what the big deal was
  • Now that I’m more into fountain pens I was very tempted to try that sweet Tomoe River paper
  • Tomoe River paper also makes the planner incredibly thin, and I wanted a portable planner going back to in-office work
  • A local store brought them, so I didn’t have to deal with customs hell!!!

Spoiler alert: I have now become a DIEHARD FAN.

THE YEARLY SPREAD:
The weeks comes with a super-compressed year at a glance spread, which is something I had never encountered before!! I started using it as a social media tracker (because that’s the world we live in now, idk), but with some new stuff coming up I pivoted to a deadline/comic posting tracker for the second half of the year.

THE MONTHLY SPREAD
I’m currently using Google Calendar as my monthly calendar (because my appointments get moved a lot and I don’t like striking things out), so I’m using these spreads as a space for daily drawings! it’s been a nice way to get an overview of how the month went πŸ™‚

FUN FACT: both the monthly and weekly portions of the planner begin in December of the previous year! I was so excited about this planner that I ditched my 2021 one at the end of November and started this one early…whoops Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

THE WEEKLY SPREAD
Of course the meat of the Weeks are the weekly pages–horizontal weekly layout on the left, notes section on the right. The left-hand side also has some very subtle marks to divide the page into thirds! Here’s some of the layouts I’ve been using:

I really like how easy it is to customize the weekly pages as you need!! Sometimes I need a ton of sections, and other times I just need something super basic, you know? plus it keeps things fresh through the year πŸ˜›

The paper is also reeeeeal good for fountain pens! it does take a little longer to dry, though, and I’ve smudged it multiple times….but that’s just the lefty life…

At the end of the planner there’s 70 blank pages for random notes, which I’ve used for ink swatching, comic planning (I’ll get to that on a separate post), a list of things lent/borrowed, and my classic “When’s the last time I…?”

Overall, I’m really happy with this planner!! it’s cute, portable, and works perfectly for what I need. I already pre-ordered another for next year, so we’ll see how that keeps up πŸ˜›
